Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA 2wei Herz! Episode 10 REVIEW
Fate/kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ 2wei Herz!
Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! – 10 Final Episode
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Iri arrives to find the injured Caren and is shocked to learn that a different kind of Holy Grail War is starting. Meanwhile, Gilgamesh is ecstatic to find Ilya worthy of facing him as she draws incredible power to launch furious attacks, despite the warning from Ruby that this could damage her. Kuro is taking damage from the attacks on Ilya, so when Rin and Luvia arrive, they want to try to stop Ilya to save her. Kuro rejects this and convinces the others to go on the attack and aid Ilya. Luvia and Rin set up a magic railgun for Kuro to use her Archer abilities through as Bazett also attacks. Ilya convinces Ruby to give her more power as Ilya defeats the Gilgamesh’s Ea attack and reaches Miyu. Ilya thanks Kuro as Iri and Caren arrive to observe from a distance.
The next day, Shirou catches Kuro doing a snog mana recharge, leading him to assume certain things. After breakfast, Tatsuko, Mimi, Nanaki, and Suzuka arrive, where no one has completed their summer homework. Ilya and Kuro suggest going to Miyu’s house, which the other girls’ aren’t sure of, but to their surprise, Ilya and Kuro were right and Miyu welcomed them warmly. They work on their homework and enjoy their friendship. In Luvia’s study, Luvia, Rin, and Bazett are meeting, where Luvia and Rin decide that while they won’t outright lie in their report to the Magic Association, they won’t say everything. They don’t like that Bazett plans to tell the blunt truth of things, but she says the differences in the reports won’t show up for a while.
Meanwhile, Iri and Caren investigate the site of the battle against the 8th card. There’s no sign of the card or Gilgamesh. Further, the crater that Ilya created when she blasted her way through to reach Miyu is missing, replaced with a perfect landscape. Caren believes this land they are seeing came from a parallel world. In the underground cavern, a golden boot steps on the Archer Card there and a magic circuit is created. A bandaged boy or girl is at the side of the apparent women with the golden boots and leg armor.
Thoughts/Review:
And so this latest Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya title comes to an end with an episode that is half plot, half fun filler.
Regarding the plot stuff, other than saving Miyu, we really didn’t learn a great deal. We’d already learned that Miyu was another version of the Holy Grail from another world and that she had a brother there who apparently looks and sounds like Shirou (or at least, a Shirou-type person she addresses as oniichan, whether he’s her real brother or not).
What we did learn is that Miyu apparently didn’t cross over on some card hunting mission, as it seemed to me during the first Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya series. It seems that her version of Shirou caused her to escape to this world, no doubt to try to thwart that world’s version of the Holy Grail War. We don’t know if she brought the Class Cards with her and lost them, or how those cards came over. We don’t know anything else about them, or why a section of the world is replaced with their world (or yet another world).
I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see Iri go “mama bear” and help at the end of the fight. When she encountered Caren, Iri looked like someone ready to rip fools in half for messing with her girls. Of course, when she saw them at the end of the fight and all was well, she was back to her normal self. I wonder how Iri and Caren will factor into the next series.
While the episode has Ilya going SSS-class in defeating the Gilgamesh body mass, we didn’t see what happened with Gilgamesh. Somehow, no one questioned where the 8th card went until the next day when Luvia and Rin are less worried about the card and more worried about the report they have to make. And yet somehow, that card makes it underground for our mysterious duo to step on at some later point.
I do appreciate aftermath stuff in a series, which is where the second half of the episode dwelt. I liked that Miyu was able to show more emotions and such, which I hope continues in the fourth series.
I’ll write up some final thoughts later, but for now, this episode ends things with some nice action, some humor, but with a ton of questions still unanswered. I guess that’s what Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA 3rei!! will deal with.
In case you are wondering, the anime changed the second half of the episode since the original scene in the manga ended on a huge cliffhanger that leads into 3rei. I’m guessing they weren’t sure if they were going to do a new season till the last minute.
Of course if you read the last chapter of 2wei you might get spoiled if they somehow find a way to insert it into the new season. Here’s the divergence point in the anime: http://i.imgur.com/tblih6m.jpg everything that happens afterward from that point is anime original.
I kept saying I would read the manga and I’ve yet to do it, other than a few early chapters and maybe something Farray would point out. At this point, I’ll continue to not read the manga and see what fun awaits in the new anime season.
Interesting though. That means that the entire second half of the episode is original to the anime. Well, if the 2wei manga ended on a cliffhanger, I guess that’s why the anime production team decided to do something that would end things on a good note, but elude to something new coming.
